Shabu Shabu Dinner on Christmas Eve

In Japan, some people would like to eat out on Christmas Eve. In case, I think they rather choose European/American cuisine. Me? I would have what I want. So I had Shabu Shabu dinner that night.

Here is one more reason. I had a free ticket for this Japanese traditional sweets.

I was pretty much full that night...

Kotori Cafe Kichijoji

I had fun time at Kotori (Birds) Cafe Kichijoji.

Actually I wanted to have "Kotori cake" but they didn't have what I wanted. So I had this "Buncho (Java sparrow) curry."

It locates right in front of Ghibli museum.

Birds are in other room and we can see them through the glass wall. You can touch the bird with extra charge. So I did as the photo on the top.

I'd like to visit Omotesando branch sometime soon.

Snow Monkeys in Jigokudani Yaen Park

After Ama-harashi seashore, we were heading to Jigokudani Yaen Park that is well known as Snow Monkeys. This is the only place in the world that wild monkeys take onsen (hot spa).

At the park, you should keep the rules as below. They are specified on the admission ticket.
All the visitors follow the rules so things go in order.

Please do not attempt to touch or startle the monkeys.
Please keep a safe distance from monkeys while watching, photographing or video shooting.
Please do not show food or feed to the monkeys.
Special photography (use underwater or aerial photographic equipment, or getting any type of special equipment close to the monkeys) is prohibited.

I use super zoom lens (18-300 millimeters) for the photos.

This is how people took photos.

It doesn't seem so wide though, it may be enough for the monkeys.

Look at this guy's relaxing face.

Baby monkeys enjoy themselves.

These guys are very much relaxing like human. If you go to Japanese onsen (for human), you may see people go like this.

I feel like to have hot spring. For human, of course!

Dawn Of Ama-harashi Seashore

The next view spot is sunrise of Ama-harashi seashore in Toyama.
I had to woke up at 4:00am that day. It was tough job for me though, I could make it.
It was raining heavily so I didn't bring my camera but my cellphone one. To my surprise, rain stopped while we were having photo session!

It was getting brighter but we couldn't see sunrise. You see a tall island on the right is Onna (woman) Rock. If it was a fine weather, we were able to see both sunrise and Tateyama Mountains behind the rock.

This is how my tour mates took photos.

I caught a train and Onna Rock. It's Himi line and runs along the seashore. My best shot of the day!

This is Yoshitune Rock. The name Yoshitune comes from a famous military commander from Minamoto dynasty. He stayed under the rocks while it was raining.

So this sheine is named Yoshitune Shrine.

We were heading to see Snow Monkeys in Jigokudani Yaen Park.

To be continued.

Shirakawago

I  went to Shirakawago village that was registered UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995. This place is known to Gassho-tukuri (prayer hands construction style roof) houses.

I joined a tour and our tour buss parked the other side of the river. So we had to pass across this thin narrow bridge. It swings when I walked through. Very thrilling walk anyway.

They renew the roof once in several years. It all goes by human's hands so they always help each other. It reminds me of Amish people in USA.

I liked a view of the house with persimmons.

I found a fish in watercourse. It may be a rainbow trout, I guess.

Early winter scenery caught my eyes.

According to the tour guide, there is an event of spraying water on the houses that protect from parched roof. Since the roof is made from straw so they have to be cautious for fire.

After I looked around the village, I had Japanese style tea break with traditional sweets.

Then we were heading to our next view spots. That night we stayed Toyama city. We were scheduled to have photo session of sunrise before 5:00am next morning. Can I make it to wake up such early time?

To be continued
