After Ms Imad's Exhibition

Views of East Shinjuku

After the Exhibition, we had our lunch together since it was lunch time.
My friend, Ms O. found a sign of "Crillon" that reminded her of Tokyo railroad station branch but it has been closed. So we decided to try this restaurant.
When she saw a man came by us. Then both she and he recognized each other. She used to be a preferred customer of the station branch. The man has moved to the Shinjuku branch after all.
展覧会見学の後、昼時だったので友人達と食事をすることに。
友人Oさんが、クリヨンの看板を見て、かつて東京駅にあった店を思い出されたとのことで、私たちはここで食事をする事にしました。
そしてお店の方が出ていらしてビックリなことが。
なんと、彼女がご贔屓にしていた店の方が、こちらに移られていたのでした。

We could have our seats near by window and could enjoy the views. Later I have learned that it's hard to get window side section without reservation. So we were very lucky. Since we didn't have any reservation.
窓際近くの席に着くことが出来、その景色を楽しむことも出来ました。後日分かったのですが、窓側席は予約無しでは中々取れないのでした。いきなり行った私たちは、とてもラッキーだったと言えるのでしょう。

The Exhibition brought us another fun time together.
この展覧会のお陰で、再び楽しい時を過ごすことが出来ました。

Minako Imada's Exhibition in Shinjuku

I went to see an exhibition of Ms Minako Imada(Japanese language only) at Takashimaya in Shinjuku. I have got her book for about 35years ago. Since then I have been a fan of her. I thank for my friend, Ms O. and her one who has got involved with this project. Her friend is a student of Ms Imada's class and worked for the table coordination for Catherine the Great.

This is how I could go for the exhibition. I was also glad that I could meet my other friends and shared such fun time together.
新宿の高島屋で行われた、今田美奈子さんの展示会に行って来ました。若い頃から憧れていたこの方の展示会に行く機会を与えてくださった、友人に深く感謝いたします。
私の友人Oさんの友人が、今田さんの教室のお弟子さんだそうです。
この方は今回のプロジェクトでエカテリーナのテーブルセッティングに関わっていらっしゃいます。
そんな関係で、今回の展覧会を見に行くことが出来ました。
久しぶりにお友達の皆様ともお会いできて本当に楽しかったです。

I also had a nice surprise.
There was an autograph session of Ms Imada.
Of course I have got her one! Then I showed her a book that she had published more than 35 years ago.
She replied me with a charming smile,
"Oh, it has already been out of print."
会場で嬉しいサプライズもありました。サイン会を行っていらっしゃいまして、私も勿論サインしていただきました。その時、私の所持する、３５年以上前に出版された彼女の本をお見せしたところ、「まあ、もうこれは無いのよ。」とそれは素敵な笑顔でお答え下さいました。

Oh, what a precious moment!!
そして何と！
今田さんと御一緒に写真を撮らせていただくことが出来ました。
ああ、なんて至福の時でしょう!!

She is elegant and graceful yet so cute. Absolutely attractive lady to respect.
I was so happy I could meet her and even I could talk with!
Thanks again for all the people who brought me such wonderful moment.
とても優雅で気品があって、それでいてとてもキュートでいらっしゃる、本当に素敵なレディです。直接お目にかかれて、その上お話まで出来て本当に嬉しかったです。
このような素敵な時をもたらして下さった全ての皆様に感謝いたします。

RIP Ralph

My best friend's dog, Ralph passed away.
親友の愛犬Ralphが虹の橋を渡りました。

She found him on the highway in 2000 and opened the door for him. Then he jumped into her car. It was when Ralph's happiest life had begun. He was very friendly and smart dog. I loved him a lot. I will miss him.
I won't forget about my memories with him.
親友がハイウエイで彼（ラルフ）を見つけたのは２０００年。彼女がドアを開けてやったその車に飛び乗りました。その時から彼の最も幸せな一生が始まったのです。ラルフはとても人懐こく利口な犬でした。大好きだったよ。これから寂しくなるね。
でもラルフと私の思い出はずっと忘れないよ。

My thoughts are with my best friend.
親友に心よりお悔やみ申し上げます。

RIP Ralph.
ラルフよ安らかに。合掌。

Terry's Vacation in Lake Yamanaka 2011 summer #3

This is Terry's third visit of the Lake area.
テリー君3度目の山中湖です。

At first we've visited the place called Second Semica but they don't accept customers except accommodates. The shop was also closed that day. Too bad.
最初にセカンドセミカに立ち寄ったのですが、この日は宿泊客以外はもう終了でショップもお休みとのことで残念でした。

It has been raining since morning of that day so we have changed our plan to go swimming at Moroyama. Instead, we were heading to Woof in Lake Yamanaka. They have indoor swimming pool and indoor leash free dog run so no matter what weather it would be, it doesn't matter in this place.
朝からあいにくの天気だったので、予定していた毛呂山のプールをやめて山中湖へと出発しました。室内プールと室内ドッグランのあるWoofならお天気を気にしなくてすみます。

Terry enjoyed swimming there.
テリー君は、ここWoofで水泳を楽しみました。

And I bought those ham and sausages again.
勿論いつものハムも買いました。

Spider Lily (Higannbana) 2011

It's time for Spider lilies (Higannbana), the sign of autumn.
This season the flower bloomed a bit delayed, about a week behind as the average year though. It is still around Autumn equinox (Higann) so I should say it is punctual.
彼岸花の時期がやってきました。今シーズンはチョット遅れましたが、それでも彼岸時期に咲いていますから、時間に正確と言えるでしょう。

I had a chance to visit Kinchakuda again and got some photos. The first one below is at the entrance of it. There were lots of people and such pretty cosmoses.
巾着田に行く機会があり、写真を撮ってきました。最初の写真は入り口付近のものです。もの凄い人出でした。そして美しいコスモスの群生も。

Now I go inside. It used to be admission free. Later on, we are charged 200 yen per person. In other words, we pay for preserving and maintenance of the area. I think it makes sense.
それでは中に入ってみましょう。以前は入場無料だったのですが、後に1人あたり200円課せられるようになり、それは巾着田の保存や管理の費用に使われるそうです。納得です。

The Spider lily festival is extended until October 10.
So you would like to see them? Hurry!!
巾着田のお祭りは10月10日まで延長されました。お花を見たい人はお急ぎ下さい!!

I found a nice restaurant there also. I will tell you about it soon.
ここで素敵なレストランを見つけましたが、その件は近いうちに書くことにします。

Terry's Vacation in Lake Yamanaka 2011 summer #2

This is Terry's second visit of the Lake area.
This time we had lunch at Dino Diner. But poor Terry had to bring his own lunch.
テリー君2度目の山中湖訪問です。
今回はディノダイナー　で昼食をとりました。でも可哀相なテリー君はお弁当持参です。

The photo below shows a cute dog named 夢宇(pronounce as Moo).
There is a stage for a live show at night.
看板犬の夢宇（ムー）ちゃん。店内にはステージがあり、夜はライブが行われるらしいです。

Then we went to Koshiji (Japanese language only) and got some house made sausages.
それからソーセージ類が美味しい古志路に。ホームメイドソーセージ類を購入しましたよ。

I found this place by a chance. It was the time I was heading to Caro Foresta, I lost the way. Then I recognized this place and got some sausages. They tasted so good!
They accept dogs at the front porch so we'd like to come back and will have lunch there.
The photo below shows what I've got there.
ここは前回カーロフォレスタへの道を間違えた時、偶然発見したお店。ここで購入したソーセージやハムが美味しくて、その上レストランのテラス席はワンコ可なので次の機会に訪れたいです。
こちらが購入したものです。

Pork ham with pie crust wrapping reminded me of an American dish named "Beef Wellington" and those days memories of Christmas. My friend cooked it. Ah, I haven't had it for a long while.
Anyway, I enjoyed these house made stuffs a lot at night.
In fact, I got them again on our third visit.
この店オリジナルのハムのパイ包みが、アメリカのビーフウェリントンという名の料理に似ていて嬉しくなりました。クリスマスに友人が作ってくれたのですが、ずいぶんご無沙汰です。この伝統料理を思い出させてくれて、しかも美味しくてとても楽しめました。夕飯で早速頂きました。
3度目に山中湖を訪問したときも買いましたよ。

Paper Moon is the one I have wanted to go for. They accept dogs at front porch area. Cakes tasted great and I want to come again sometime soon.
かねてから行ってみたかった、ペーパームーンのテラス席はワンコ可です。ケーキとっても美味しかったです。また行きたいな。　

Look at Terry's face. He smiles. I'm sure he had fun time there.
テリー君の顔を見てください。笑顔でしょう？間違いなく楽しかったのでしょう。

I also stopped by World Teddy Bear Museum. I wanted to buy something there but it was sold out. Too bad! I may come again.
Oh well, Terry has got into the museum once before.
さらに立ち寄ったこちらはワールドテディベアーミュージアム。ショップで買いたい物があったのですが、売り切れでした。また来ようっと。
テリー君この中を見学したことがあるんですよ。

Little Help for Fukushima with Bell Peppers

Since I bought lots of bell peppers of Fukushima so I've looked for a recipe for them.
福島産のピーマンを沢山買ったのでレシピを探しました。

Here is the recipe.

bell pepper     7 to 8, sliced.
soy sauce       1 1/2 TBSPs(23ml)
honey             1 tsp(5ml)
vegetable oil  1 TBSP(15ml)
sesame oil      1 tsp(5ml)

1) Heat fry-pan and put into both  vegetable oil and sesame oil in it.
2) Add sliced bell peppers and stir-fry.
3) When it soften, add soy sauce and honey. Stir-Fry about a few minutes.
4) Add black pepper for additional flavor.
作り方
ピーマン　        　　　　  7～8個　輪切りにする
醤油　　　　　　大さじ　1　1/2
蜂蜜　　　　　　小さじ　1
サラダオイル　大さじ　1
胡麻油　　　　 小さじ　1

1)フライパンにサラダオイルと胡麻油の両方を入れ熱します。
2)種を取って輪切りにしたピーマンを加えて炒めます。
3)しんなりと軟らかくなったら醤油と蜂蜜を加え、さらに炒めます。
4)好みでブラックペッパーを加えます。

It's quite easy.
とっても簡単ですよ。

Terry's vacation in Lake Yamanaka 2011 summer #1

Terry spent his vacation at Lake Yamanaka 3 times this summer. This is his first visit there.
テリー君は今夏、山中湖を３回訪れました。これは１度目の訪問のようすです。

We had lunch at Italian restaurant Caro Foresta(Japanese language only). It has rooms to stay with dogs over night. We didn't spend a night. Instead, we stayed there shortly, just for lunch and use play ground. 

Although they have dog's meal menu, Terry couldn't have any because of his allergy problem.
Photos below are what we (human!) had there.
イタリアンレストランカーロフォレスタで昼食をとりました。ここは宿泊施設があり、犬も同室で泊まれます。私たちは宿泊ではなく、食事とドッグランを利用しただけです。このレストランでは犬用メニューもあるのですが、テリーのアレルギー問題のため、それを利用することは出来ませんでした。

以下の写真は私たち（人間）が食べたものです。

After all, it was fun time for Terry. They have private leash free dog park. Admission is free when you have meal at the restaurant. So Terry enjoyed himself at the park.
食事後はテリー君のお楽しみ時間。このレストランは専用のドッグランを持っていて、食事をした客は利用料が無料なんです。ここでテリーは思いっきり遊びました。

Lucky boy! It was absolutely private one!

この日は誰もいなくて完全貸し切り状態。ラッキー!

Beside, we have stopped at Wild Wan (Japanese language only) for our tea break. The photo above show what we had there.

そしてワイルドワンでお茶休憩しました。上の写真が私たちの食べたケーキです。(写真の前にチョット食べちゃった)

Poor boy. Terry can't have any because of his allergy as you know.

But the owner of the restaurant kindly offered that they would cook some for him if we notice them beforehand. OK, we will do next time!
可哀相なテリー君！ご存じのようにアレルギーのため何も食べられません。でもオーナさんが、前もって連絡すれば特別食を作ってくれると言って下さいました。次回はそうしようね。

At Christmas Museum. They charge admission fee even for entering gift shop only. I didn't like it so I didn't go for.
クリスマスミュージアムにも行ったのですが、何も買いませんでした。（ショップに入るにも入場料が必要だったので。）

The sign should be like this.
There are many of those crazy sings as I have shown before.
Ah, my efforts seems in vain....
標識(の英語)はこう表記されるべきなのです。
＃１のような、イカレた標識の氾濫を見るにつけ、日頃の(業務の)努力が虚しくなってきます。

English is not the first language to most of Japanese people including me. So it make sense that we may have many mistakes though. I think they need to make much better efforts. I do expect them to do so.
殆どの日本人にとって英語は第１言語ではありませんから、(私もですが)間違いがあるのは当然でしょう。でも、もっと努力して欲しいと思います。調べる手段は昔よりずっと楽で、沢山ありますから。

Just focus on English words.

Act for Japan!!

I bought some eggplants, bell peppers and peaches. They all harvested in Fukushima.
Because of the power plant problem, Fukushima people has been suffered from bad reputations and can't get enough incomes.
So buying their crops can be a little help. Why don't I try?
茄子とピーマン、それに桃を買いました。これらは皆、福島県産です。
例の原発問題のせいで福島県の人達は風評被害に遭い、十分な収入が得られないでいます。
だから作物を購入することが少しの手助けになります。ならば当然買うでしょうが!!

"Italiano!!" Since then...

I have cooked some pasta with my new cookware since then.

The sauce is shrimp and creamy tomato.

その後、例の新しい鍋でパスタを料理しました。エビのクリーミートマトソースです。

This time I had fresh pasta that contains rice powder. It tasted different from regular Italian style one though, I liked it. 

今回は米粉入りの生パスタを使用しました。いつものイタリアンスタイルとはチョット違った味でしたが、気に入りました。

Here is the one! Time to have it!
はい、出来上がり! さ、食べましょう!

After all, they all go into the dish washer. Quite easy, right?
あとは食洗機にお任せで。簡単でしょ?

Easy cooking #2 corn chips

Here is another easy cooking.
Place corn chips on the bottom.
Add dice cut yellow and red tomatoes on it.
Pour your favorite ready-made tomato sauce on it.
That' all.
再び簡単クッキングです。
コーンチップスを敷きつめます。
その上にサイコロ状に切ったイエロートマトと(普通の)トマトを乗せます。
お好みの市販のトマトソースを書けて出来上がり。
はい、これだけ。

I did this before I bought my new cookware anyway.
これはあの新しい鍋類を購入する前に作ったものですけどね。

Get cool breeze at Oku-Tama area

It's been hot days still. I had some mint water and went somewhere to get cool breeze.  It wasn't enough. So I tried to get more breeze.
Then where do I go for? Oku-Tama area may be the one!
暑い日が続きます。ミントウォーターを飲んだり、涼を求めて出掛けてみたり。でもまだ暑い。
どこにしようか？ 涼しいだろう奥多摩にしよう!

There is a famous store that has へそ饅頭(pronounce as hee-so-man-ju). It's one of Japanese traditional sweets and was served for the political meeting at
日の出山荘 (pronounce as hinode-san-sow).
It was accomplished by Ronald W Reagan (was the 40th President of the United States ) and Yasuhiro Nakasone (is former Prime Minister of Japan.) One of the historical meeting in those days.
ここにはへそ饅頭で有名なお店があります。日本の伝統的なお菓子(饅頭)で、日の出山荘で行われた政治会合でも供された物なのです。
その会合とは、故レーガン第40代米国大統領と中曽根康弘元首相の歴史的会談でした。

Anyway I got some hot fresh ones to take back home.

It's been so hot in Tokyo still.
出来たての熱々饅頭をお持ち帰りしましたよ。

それにしても東京は暑いなぁ。

Splash Terry 2011

Yes. It's time for swimming!
As many of you know that Terry loves to go swimming. Here are the first pictures of this season.
今年もやって来ました、水泳の季節です!
多くの方がご存じのようにテリー君は水泳が大好きです。それでは今シーズンの画像を公開です。
By the time we were going back home,we let him get into the car but he struggled against it. He wanted to stay there still. I knew he was exhausted so he should leave there before he would get worse.
そして帰途につこうとテリー君を車に乗せようとした時、激しく抵抗しました。まだ泳いでいたかったようです。でも、(足もふらついて)かなり疲れてきているのが分かっていましたから、ひどくなる前に切り上げることにしたのです。

That night he swam again in his dream. How come we could know?
From his action while he was sleeping, it surely was actions of swimming!  I bet he enjoyed his splashing day.
その夜、夢の中で再び泳いでいるテリー君を発見です。どうして判ったかって？だって寝ている時の、テリー君の動きが水泳の動作そのものでした!　もう、間違いなく楽しんだ証拠でしょう。
