New Light Equipment

The energy saving project for my house is going on.
I have introduced some LED light bulbs but it was not enough. This time I got some more LED light equipment.
我が家の省エネ計画進行中。
これまでにもＬＥＤの電球交換をしてきましたが、今回は一部の器機をＬＥＤ対応のものに交換です。

Here is the new one. It has a sensor to be aware of things when they come by.
新しくこんな風になりました。センサー付きで人などが近づくと点灯します。

The entrance hall lighting seems the same as the old one though. It rather be brighter but save more electricity.
玄関ホールは、見た目は以前と変わらずですが、前より明るくて消費電力は減りました。

It has expandable wire. So it's easy for exchange the light bulb when I need to.
伸縮するワイヤーコードのお陰で電球交換が簡単になりました。

天井もスッキリして、やはり省電力。

I want to get all the light equipment for LED ones but it costs fortune. I can't make it all at once. Next time I'll get the ones for the living room and my bed room. Hopefully it will happen soon....
全部交換したいけど、ＬＥＤは本体の価格が高価なので一度に交換は厳しいです。次回は寝室やリビングの交換予定。いつになるかな?

Fancy Toilet

I have had another house remodeling project again. I would say, the project #3. The toilet parts has done. I forgot to take a picture of its before though. It became so neat and nice. The bars on both side will be a big help when I'll get old.
I've wanted to have Washlet so far long. (Click Washlet and you may learn about it.) Lately, it has introduced in LA area also.
It was invented in Japan and we have lots more high spec models than its web site explanations for export use. Sort of like cellphone.
Anyway, I've just made it to have the one in my house!
再びリフォーム中の我が家です。プロジェクト３と名付けましょう。今回のプロジェクトの一つ、トイレ部門は終了しています。でも「ビフォアーアフター」みたいに工事前の写真を撮り忘れてしまいまして、完成後の写真のみです。とても綺麗に仕上がりました。両側の手摺りは、老後の大きな手助けとなるでしょう。
ずっと前から考えていたウォシュレットも付けました。これからの必需品だと思っています。ウォシュレットは携帯電話同様、日本が世界に先行していて、近年LAでも注目されていました。やっと我が家にもついたぞ！

I didn't pick up such high spec one. It was too much for me so I decided to have basic standard model instead. At their official web site, there are
lots of movies and illustrations. They are under Japanese language environment only however, you will know what I have got.

不要な機能がありすぎでも無用の長物なので、高機能モデルではなく、ベーシックな物を選びました。メーカーのオフィシャルサイトに機能の説明がありましたのでここに紹介しておきます。全て日本語ですが、動画や図解で説明されているので分かり易いと思います。私の選んだ機能がおわかり頂けるかと思います。

はい、こちらがその写真です。インテリアも全て私が選びました。

I also had a radiator heating system for the room. It's the same one as we have at the first floor one. (This toilet is on the second floor.) It may protect us from both winter coldness and heat shock.
足元には、１階にあるのと同じヒーターを付けました。冬の寒さとヒートショック防止に役立つでしょう。

What should I do from now on? Keep on cleaning them every time?
Oh, that's the LAST thing I would do...... whoops!
さて、私が今後すべきことは何でしょう?この綺麗さを毎日保つためのお掃除？それは絶対無理な事ですワン・・・・(^^;)

Floor heating system

I have had another house remodeling project. This time I have planed a floor heating system. We used to use "kotatu" that had kept our legs warm. But it doesn't work for my father anymore since he uses a wheel chair. So I decided to have wooden floor with heater that can fit to his situation.
The photo on the left shows a process of floor heating construction.
水回りをリフォームしたばかりの我が家ですが、再び新たなるプロジェクトを立ち上げました。今回は床暖房設備です。以前は掘り炬燵で足元が暖かい生活をしていましたが、爺ちゃん（父）が車椅子になって、これまでの状態では不都合になってしまったからです。左の写真は床暖房事中の写真です。

It took three days and has done on December 30! We could have warm nights before New Year's Day. It may be a Holiday Gift (Xmas? or New Year's one called "otoshidama"?) for our family.

工期は３日間で１２月３０日に無事終了しました！新年を前に暖かい夜を過ごすことが出来るようになりました。これって、ホリディギフトですね！(クリスマスプレゼント？お年玉かも？）

I also introduced a heater for my father's room. He used to use an air conditioner. But the new one has much more power to keep it warm and much safer than before. He said he liked the new one a lot.

Well, lets ask "his" opinion again. How do you like this, Terry?

そして爺ちゃんの部屋にも、床暖房と同じ方式（セントラルヒーティング）で部屋を暖めるヒーターを付けました。これまで使用していたエアコンよりもずっとパワーがあって、快適なようです。それに安全度も格段増しました。爺ちゃんもとても気に入ったようです。

では再びテリー君にご意見を伺ってみましょう。(笑)

My kitchen lately キッチンその後の様子

まだまだ片づかないキッチンですが、以前から考えていた用具や小物も少しずつ そろえています。今はこんな感じです。今日お玉などを立てるツールスタンドを買いました。
I still organize my kitchen. I know it is a big job and I work for it little by little. I have got some tools as I have planed. Today, I got a cooking tool stand. My kitchen lately is like the photo below.

そして、このお鍋を買いました。以前スーパーのポイントでもらったのと同じ会社の製品です。

Today, I bought this pan. It is the same brand as I have already got from a mileage point program of a grocery store. I paid for it this time.

ところで壁面のパネルに張り付いている物が気になりませんか？この赤い丸井物は何でしょう？ これは、鍋敷きで、磁石で張り付いているのです。キッチンパネルがステンレスなので、使わないときはこうして貼り付けておけば場所をとらなくて便利です。今日見つけたのですが、スペイン製だそうです。

Well, do you recognize a red round thing on the wall? It is a pot holder. It is staged by its magnet. This part of my kitchen wall is made of stainless steel so it works. When I don't use it, it stays on the wall and I can have more room on the counter.
I found it today. They said it was made in Spain.

うれしい機能は、お鍋が鉄製ならこうしてくっつくので、そのまま食卓に運べることです。我が家のキッチンのカウンターもステンレス製ですが、表面の加工の関係で鍋にしかくっつかないので便利なんです。

The function I like the best is like this. In case I use steel pans, it sticks and I can carry it to the dining table at a time. My kitchen counter is also stainless steel , however, because of its surface, the holder sticks on pans only. Very convenience!

こちらのトナカイさんは鍋つかみです。オレゴンの友人からのクリスマスプレゼントです。だから季節に関係なく使っています。とても可愛いでしょう？これは磁石のクリップでつり下げてあります。 その左横にオーブン用のグローブも置きました。
This reindeer is a glove pot holder. It was a Christmas gift from my Oregon friend. So I use it all year around.Isn't it cute?　It is hold by a magnet clip also.　Besides, I put some gloves for oven on the left of it.

その反対側にも鍋つかみがありまして、やはり磁石でとめてあります。下に見えるクリスマスがらのは、オハイオ州の友人からのクリスマスプレゼントです。
On the other hand, I have some more pot holder that are staged by a magnet. You see a Christmas patterned one underneath. It was from one of my Ohio friend.

少しずつではありますが、その後のキッチンレイアウト計画は進行中であります。
It goes slowly but my kitchen layout plan works little by little.

House Remodeling project 3

入院中の父が改築の進行状況を知りたがるので、それを写真にとっては毎日見せに行っていました。無事工事が終了し、写真からもその違いが分かってとても嬉しそうでした。
I have taken many photos for my father every time. Since he has been in the hospital and wanted to know how the remodeling work was going. Now all the construction have done and he learned how much it has changed. He looked happy also.

工事中はこんな感じでした。撤去する前の流し台です。長年使っていたので、かなり汚くなってました。
It shows the kitchen under the construction. The photo on the left shows the old kitchen sink.
It has used over 30 years and got so dirty and ugly.
床下収納も古くなって、危険な箇所があったので新しくしました。下の写真では、その床は工事中のため穴だけなので、危険防止のため板をかぶせてあります。
The floor storage was replaced since it got so old and partly broken. I had to get a new one for safeness. There were just a hole on the floor so it was covered by a plate for security reason.

終了後はこんなになりました。

床下収納です。床もきしんでいたので床板を貼りかえて新しくなりました。これまでとちがって、きちんとお掃除しないといけないんだけど・・・
It is a new floor storage. I also got a new floor. Then I don't hear the sounds (something like cracking) any more! So I have to keep it clean... not like it used to be.
「綺麗」を維持出来るかしらん？チョット(←かなりの間違い）不安・・・(笑)
Can I make it? Well..... worry.. worry...
Does anyone come to Japan as a house maid? If you would, I'd love to pay for it! :-)


食器洗い乾燥機も付けました。日本ではまだ馴染みが浅いですが、食洗機先進国と言えるアメリカの友人達の家にはほとんどありまして、その便利さは充分体験済みです。だからこれも絶対付けようと思っていました。お鍋やオーブン皿も洗うから、組み込める最大容量のを選びました。それでも友人達のよりはるかに小さいですけれど、そこは日本のお家芸「ハイテク」でカバーです！
I got dishwasher too! It is not a common thing in Japan yet. I think that America is far ahead of it. In fact almost all of my friends in USA have dishwashers in their house. I have learned how useful it is while my stay there. I have planned to have it when I would remodel my kitchen. Then I made it.
I picked up the maximum one for my kitchen size. It is still a smaller one than my friends' though. It had many hi-technique functions instead. It cares not only dished but many cooking tools. It surely make me easy.

そして狭い日本の家屋に適した、収納できる棚も付けました。
I picked a foldable shelf also. It is very useful for such small house in Japan. When I don't use it, It can be hide under the shelf. Yes, I really like it!

ダウンウォール式の上置きです。これまでの物は出し入れが不自由で、上置きに入れた物は何十年もそのままでした。いわゆる「タンスの肥やし」ですね。使わないものを、ただ仕舞い込んでおくだけというのはしたくないので、今度は絶対これにしようと思っていました。

Pull down shelf in the upper cabinet. This is also useful. The old ones were too high for me to reach the stuffs. So things had been there for over some decades. I think it is the waste. I don't want to have such dead stock at my kitchen. So I have decided to have this function from the beginning.


流し台下の扉にこんな収納が付いています。以前テレビのコマーシャルでやっていた「パタパタくん」です。包丁やお玉が収納出来るのですが、我が家のお玉は長すぎて収容できませんでした(>_<)今は別の方法を思案中です。このスペースに入る調理用具をしまおうと思います。

Cooking tools can be store in such place, under the sink. This is exclusive of this brand. It was on TV commercial many times. I thought it was nice. Yes, it was true. But some of my tools are too long for the room. Too bad! I'm thinking of some other substitute way.

その扉を閉めると、奥には２段式の収納が現れます。ダブルストッカーという物で、鍋やボウルなどの調理器具を入れようと思っています。この下にも引き出しがもう一段あり、こちらにもお鍋類が収納できます。

片付けの下手な私に、きちんと出来るかしら？

Behind the storage above, there are stock room called "double stocker". I put pans and bowls in it. There is another drawer under this. It also can hold lots of pans and so.

Well, there are lots more rooms to keep tools than before. Now I don't have any excuse of "No rooms! So I can't make it clean!"

How can I say from now on?

水栓は、自在に伸びるシャワー水栓。これも絶対ハズせない機能でした。だけど常に綺麗にしないと・・出来るかしら？

Flexible and expandable tap with shower. This is also the one I wanted to have.

Then I HAVE TO keep it clean...

Mmmmm, I don't know if I can make it.


そして清水器。

今から２０年ほど前に一度、我が家の水栓をお湯も使える混合水栓にしたことがあったのですが、水がまずいと、婆ちゃんがもの凄く文句を言ったので、結局元に戻してしまったという事がありました。だから文句が出ないように、この清水器も付けることにしたのです。

It's for filtered water. It may make water tasty. About 20 years ago, we have had heating system and can get warm water from a tap. But our mother complained a lot. According to her, the water tasted so bad because of the heating system. In those days, such filtered water system wasn't available. So we had to give up the heating system at that time. So this time, to avoid such complaint, we decided to have filtered water system.

それから、チョットした物が置けるパレット。アメリカで使っていたのですけど、これって結構、優れモノなんですよ。だからこれもハズせない機能でした。

A small plate that can hold some stuffs shortly. I used it at my friends' house in USA. I liked it since then. It was "must have" one for me also.

日本の狭い家屋には、３個のガスバーナーでも充分広くなりました。だって以前のは２個でしたから。４個が当たり前のアメリカの友人達から見ると、驚きでしょうけれどね。

Three heaters are big enough for Japanese small house. In my house, it used to be two heaters. It became much more than before at least. It may be incredible to my American friends'. Since they usually have for of it anyway.

ガスオーブンは、３０年以上前に、この家を新築したときに欲しかったのに、婆ちゃんの強硬な反対で付けられませんでした。ついに３０年越しの夢がやっと叶いました。

どうせならと、電子レンジ機能も付いたコンビネーションレンジにしました。意識したわけでは無いのですが、冷蔵庫とカラーコーディネイトしていました。ま、両方ともステンレス製だから、自然とそうなっちゃう訳かな・・・？

I wanted to have a gas oven for over 30 years. When we moved to this house 33 years ago, I asked my mother to have the one. We have build a new house so we could make it if we would. But my mother rejected it.

Now, finally I can make it for the first time in more than 30 years! Then I picked the most modern hi-technique one. It has multiple function of both gas and microwave oven. It can be both at a time or can be separate.

Accidentally, its color can get along with the refgelator. I didn't plan it . I guess it's just because the material was the same, stainless steel.

そしてこれが新しい台所です！綺麗になったでしょ？

House Remodeling project 2

工事中の台所です。汚れとかが凄いでしょ？ これが劇的に変わります。どう変わったかは次回のお楽しみ(笑)
The photos below show the kitchen replacement working. It seems so ugly, don't you think? But it will be changed so nice! How much it will be? Just wait until next one.

ところで、洗面所の工事が終わりました。洗濯機をどけてあるので広く見えますが、この空きスペースにはいります。洗面は、洗い場が広くて気に入っています。

The washstand work has done. The space on the pic is for a washing machine. The machine is replaced by now. Well, I like this wash stand since it has a large/wide bowl to use.

House Remodeling project 1

只今我が家は、リフォーム中。とりあえず、くつろいでお風呂に入れるようになりました。その他はまだ工事中。今日は新しいキッチンを搬入の予定です。本当は、全て今日中に済むはずだったのですが、搬入された一部の部品が壊れていて、取り替えを余儀なくされ、完成が少し遅れそうです。
I have my house remodeling right now. Somehow, the new bathroom work has done and I can have my relax bath time. But all the other parts are under construction still.
Today, they will bring into my new kitchen sets. It was scheduled to be done by today however, it will be expanded. Because we found that one of the parts was broken and it has to be changed. So it will be a bit delayed to be finish them all.

古い風呂場の写真を取り忘れたので、ウェブからイメージを拝借しました。これまでの物は、典型的な日本の家庭風呂でした。
I forgot to take a photo of the old bathroom. So I have used the image from the web site. It shows a typical/traditional Japanese bath tab.

完成したお風呂場です。今までより４０㎝広くなりました。年寄りのために手すりを３カ所に付けました。それから、暖房・換気・乾燥は勿論、せっかくですからミストサウナも付けました。髪が濡れてしまう通常のミストサウナに加え、髪が濡れないマイクロミストが２種類付いています。
お風呂が壊れてから、４ヶ月以も上スポーツジムのサウナやシャワーで凌ぐなどの不便な生活をしていましたが、これで快適お風呂タイムの日々がやって来ました。
This is the new bathroom. It became 40 centimeters wider than before. It has three bars for helping/supporting my old parents. It also has not only heater, air duct, laundry dry system but also three different kind sauna (splash mist, 2 different kind steam sauna) system!
I had to put up with all those inconveniences for over 4 months. I used shower and sauna at a sport gym where I have a membership. Now I can have wonderful bath time!!
Generally in Japan, we take a bath in the evening and don't have shower in the morning. So as long as I followed our way, it was OK. So I didn't take shower in the morning.

さて、完成した真新しいお風呂場を一番最初に使ったのは一体誰でしょう？
Guess who used this brand new bathroom for the very first time?
